I don't know what took me so long to see this movie. Maybe it was because no one would go with me. Yes, it knocked me on my ass. Did I love it as much as I thought I would? Perhaps not. But that's on me. I had such high expectations because Tarell Alvin McCraney's In the Red and Brown Water is one of the best plays I have ever seen. Listen, I'm going to see it again. But love it or not, it was just the right kind of devastating. And it was exactly the right time to see a movie without a single white face.
